MRI

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a way to visualize the internal structure of the body without ionizing radiation.

MRI is a sensitive tool that uses a powerful magnet and radio waves along with technology to create images of the body’s organs and other soft tissue in a clear and detailed way to provide a window into the body.  It is used to identify and accurately characterize disease and to evaluate the body for a variety of conditions, including tumors and diseases of the liver, heart, and bowel that may not be visible with other imaging methods.

The details seen by an MRI can be further enhanced by using contrast administered intravenously (IV) during the exam to greatly improve the visibility of organs, inflammation, tumors, and blood supply.  To ensure the utmost safety for our patients, TGH Imaging has adopted the American College of Radiology standard imaging guidelines and has been awarded accreditations in MRI.

TGH Imaging offers multiple types of MRI scanners to fit your needs.  This allows us to provide a wide array of MRI exams including wide bore MRI for claustrophobic patients or larger patients.  A patient can expect a comfortable experience with the help of our expert trained technologists who are there to help you through every step of the exam.  It is important to know that you are not completely enclosed in the machine during your exam, only the part of your body being scanned will be in the MRI cylinder. This part of your body will not be tightly enclosed, allowing for space between you and the MRI.

To prepare for your exam you should have nothing by mouth 4 hours before exam.
